Positano, Amalfi and the Spectacular Amalfi Coast

Gennaro picked us up about 9AM and we set out on our trek up the Amalfi Coast.

If you have never been here I will let the pictures speak for themselves.  The weather was not good but it doesn't matter.  The Amalfi Coast drive is up there with some of the most spectacular in the world.

You get the idea!!

Our first stop was Positano.  Beautiful, perched on the edge of the mountain, it is a holiday destination with about a million steps to the beach!!  It is full of shops, hotels and picturesque villas.

So on we drove.  As hard as it is to believe, the coast becomes even more beautiful after Positano on your way to Amalfi.

Here is one of the watch towers constructed during the 11th and 12th centuries.  The Saracens would raid the coast for slaves and whatever else they could find.

And here is our approach to Amalfi.

Amalfi is my least favorite town.  Jammed with tourists and trinket shops, it's only redeeming value is it's beautiful location and the fabulous church of St. Andrew.

I did see this interesting little car. I had never seen a car with basket woven seats so took this picture.  Turns out it is about 50 years old and cost about $400 when it was manufactured.

Our next stop is my favorite of all the Amalfi Coast towns, the beautiful Ravello.
